The year 2024 is coming, and you may find yourself wondering what changes you need to make to become better during this crucial time. Let’s explore together what needs to be paused to start a new year filled with joy and new challenges.
1.Stop caring about what others think of you
Instead of paying attention to what others think about you, be courageous to do what you want and express your true self. The fact is, everyone is more concerned about their own lives, and they only dedicate very little attention to those around them, perhaps only to offer occasional, arbitrary comments. Rather than being preoccupied with what others think about you, dare to do what you want and express your true self
2. Stop feeding your mind with negativity
Social media aare truly addictive, designed to make us spend as much time as possible, with the goal of maximize user interactions. We need to consciously recognize it in order to stop this behavior. The more addicted you become, the more they profit, while you waste your time and energy on meaningless things on the internet. As the CEO of Netflix once said, their enemy is sleep. The reality is that media platforms operate to seize your time and attention. This demands mindfulness when using your smartphone, so as not to become addicted to it.
To counteract addiction, you may need to take specific steps, such as temporarily removing apps like Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok for about a week. This action will help your mind form new habits, reducing unconscious dependence on social media and making your time more positive and meaningful.
3. Stop caring about what happened in the past
Each of us carries wounds from the past, but what’s important is that we must recognize that it cannot hinder us in the present or the future. Acknowledging and facing these past traumas is crucial for personal development and living a more positive life. Wounds may originate from various sources such as relationships, loss, or undergoing challenging events. However, the most important aspect is how we handle and learn from these experiences rather than letting them shape our decisions in the future.
4. Stop prioritizing the needs of others over yourself
Making others happy is not your mission when you come into this world. Your mission is to fulfill your desires and bring joy to yourself before you can share value with others. Don’t impose on yourself and let societal expectations make you compare yourself too much with others. Instead, prioritize your own needs and establish healthy boundaries to protect your energy.
The first step to stop pleasing others is to learn how to say ‘NO.’ Requests and demands from others can arise at any time, and if you consistently accept everything without ever refusing, your energy will be depleted. Learning to say no will create a healthy boundary between you and those around you, helping to safeguard your mental well-being.
In the past, I used to say ‘yes’ because I thought it was a way to be liked by others. However, this led to others taking advantage and not respecting me. When you can say ‘no’ and set boundaries for yourself, it fosters respect from others, and they won’t dare to exceed limits or attempt to control or manipulate you anymore.
5. Stop believing all the thoughts in your mind
The human brain functions like a machine, and sometimes it generates thoughts from the subconscious. To manage negative thoughts, remind yourself that it’s just how your brain operates. Whenever a negative thought arises, pause and ask yourself: Are these thoughts true or just cognitive thoughts?
We should not blindly accept the natural thoughts produced by our brains. The brain can produce many negative thoughts without a specific reason. This can happen multiple times a day, and we often get caught up in these thoughts. It’s crucial to recognize and not let those emotions or thoughts control you. Always maintain awareness to identify and eliminate negative thoughts, preventing them from hindering your life.
6. Stop wasting time for people who are unworthy
Life is too short to invest time in people who don’t bring happiness to your life. If someone genuinely wants to be by your side, they will show it. You won’t have to constantly demand attention from them. Love and appreciate yourself, surround yourself with those who support you and want the best for you, rather than chasing after things that are not meant for you.
7. Stop seeking happiness from others
You are a gift of creation, so you must always cherish and appreciate yourself. If you can’t be happy on your own and seek others to make you happy, that joy is only temporary because they can take it away at any time. Your happiness should be self-driven, and you shouldn’t give that power to anyone else, including parents, spouses, children, or partners. This is a lifelong lesson we all need to learn.
8. Stop staying within the comfort zone
We often seek comfort in our safe haven because it’s the most pleasant place. However, people don’t realize that the comfort zone can also become a kind of prison, confining ourselves. The worst thing we can do to ourselves is to be afraid to step out of our comfort zone because we think we are not good enough for new opportunities. Instead of keeping ourselves within this safe space, you should open yourself to new experiences, embrace learning, and be ready to face challenges. This will help you grow, expand your perspective, and discover the beautiful things waiting for you in 2024 because you deserve it.
